Morocco – Day 2 Marrakech

We had a busy schedule on the second day. After waking up at noon we realized we should get going. We walked from our riad to Majorelle Gardens. This is where YSL is buried. He was a famous resident of Marrakech. He had a vacation home there and these were his gardens. They were so zen and beautiful.

This is YSL’s memorial.

For dinner we decided to step it up a notch from street/local food and we went to the Moroccan restaurant at La Mamounia. This hotel was beyond beautiful! It has been around for years but was redone last year. They had their great reopening in September 2009 so less than a year ago. Here is a photo of us at dinner and another one of the entrance way into the hotel.

Most of their food was cooked in tagines. I loved it because they had tons of vegetables! Eggplant, squash, zucchini, carrots (which I hate so I left those on the side), and couscous were staples in most dishes in Morocco.

This is a tagine:

After this it was bedtime. I still wasn’t used to the time change. 4 hours isn’t a lot but it wasn’t fun.
